Gov Ododo Receiveds Former Bassa Lawmaker, Sunday Shigaba, as He Defects from PDP to APC

Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo, has described unity, peace, and collective interest as the cornerstone of sustainable development, as he received a former member of the State House of Assembly, Hon. Sunday Shigaba, who defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The governor made this known on Monday at the Government House in Lokoja during the defection ceremony, which attracted party leaders, stakeholders, supporters, and top government officials from across Bassa Local Government Area and beyond.

Governor Ododo commended the people of Bassa for what he described as their maturity, resilience, and commitment to peaceful coexistence, noting that their unity has continued to strengthen his administration’s development agenda in the area. He expressed appreciation for their overwhelming support during the last governorship election and for sustaining peace in their communities.

Assuring the gathering that the confidence reposed in him would not be taken for granted, the governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to inclusive governance and equitable development across the state. He described Bassa as a local government richly endowed with mineral resources and vast economic opportunities, stressing that peace and unity remain essential for harnessing these potentials.

Governor Ododo said the defection of Hon. Shigaba was a reflection of the growing confidence in the APC-led government, describing the move as bold, progressive, and driven by a genuine desire to add value to governance. According to him, politics anchored on personal ambition is gradually giving way to people-oriented leadership focused on development and service delivery.

The governor expressed satisfaction over the gradual return of peace in Bassa and cautioned against actions that could reignite division, particularly over community resources. He called on political leaders and stakeholders to prioritize dialogue, consensus, and collective interest in all engagements.

On infrastructure development, Governor Ododo assured residents that the township road in Bassa would receive the attention of his administration, reiterating that the needs of the people remain a priority. He pledged that government interventions in the area would be deliberate, impactful, and sustainable.

Speaking earlier, Hon. Sunday Shigaba said his decision to join the APC was informed by the governor’s humility, inclusive leadership style, and commitment to workers’ welfare, particularly the prompt payment of salaries. He pledged total loyalty to the party and declared his readiness to support the Governor’s administration and future political aspirations.

Also speaking, the State Chairman of the APC, Abdullahi Bello, described the defection as a major boost to the party, noting that it further strengthens the APC’s structure and dominance in Kogi State.

In separate goodwill messages, the Chairman of Bassa Local Government Area, Mr. Theophilus Daruwana Adama, alongside other party leaders and stakeholders, welcomed Mr. Shigaba into the APC fold and reaffirmed the unwavering support of the people of Bassa for Governor Ododo and his administration.

The event political observers said has marked a significant political milestone in Bassa Local Government Area, it will further strengthening the APC’s dominance in Kogi State.
